Coaching Overview

Our program is committed to player development at all ages and fostering technical and tactical competence in a positive, supportive and fun environment. We want the players to be comfortable on the ball and balance possession skills with the ability to play in a fluid attacking style. SSA emphasizes ball skills in the younger age groups and tries to build on those skills as players get older. Success in the SSA is evaluated on player development and a positive experience for the players and families.

In 2018 we took a strong stance, with a unanimous vote by the club’s Board, to have ALL SSA teams play solely for NorCal Premier League (NCPL). It’s important that moving forward, more of what SSA does is streamlined to ensure a unified process, from registration to rule of play and playing under one league moves us forward in that direction.

Our Philosophy

The presentation of the U.S. Soccer coaching curriculum is another major step in the implementation of the framework developed by the Player Development Task Force, which was created in 2006 to review all aspects of player development in the United States and recommend a course of action.

The curriculum is designed to improve the development of players in the organized player base in the United States, concentrating on creating more organized, age-appropriate training sessions, developing coaching practices, and creating an environment that is fun for the players.
